The 900 Gallon Diet: Meat, Portion Size and Water Footprints

for the meat eaters out there.. this is really interesting. apparently..

  • the appropriate size of a portion of meat is about that of a deck of cards
  • the average american eats about 8 oz. (half a pound) of meat a day
  • it takes about 1800 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef (thus it takes about 900 gallons of water to produce the average amount of meat consumed by americans each day)
